It’s a funny old game, one week on from the Tom Tom Club proving that he able doesn’t lie as they went down 2:1 to Maple Leaf, would the hull be as sick as a parrot or over the moon as they faced Brierley Hill, trying not to lose any more ground on their fellow strugglers in the league basement.

With no Jankowski, and Langston snr on the bench, the hulls back four of mad dog, Williams, Webber and O’Saye should be applauded for the feat of keeping a clean sheet in the first half for the first time, and while they rode their luck on occasion as Brierley Hill had the hull chasing shadows with their cultured interpassing game you get what you deserve and the hull had given 110%.

Infact the hull were unlucky not to be ahead, Brierley Hill, although easy on the eye were unable to penetrate, and the better chances of the first half fell to the hull. Hales on the right wing in particular had the measure of his full back and was putting in some quality crosses while Ward was a real handful up front.

But it’s a game of two halves, and just after the interval came the turning point as Ward managed to put one over the bar from two yards when it looked like it would have been easier to score. Then as Langston was weighing up his options to bring some fresh legs of the bench the hull were brought down to earth as he defence were at sixes and sevens and Brierley Hill were able to open the scoring past the otherwise commanding Estridge.

Langston reacted immediately bringing on Reeson for the tiring Millist and himself for the out of form Mad Dog as the hull set out to prove that they were not there just to make up the numbers and to show Brierley Hill that there are no easy games.

Reeson quickly joined Burke, Rainbow and Madden grafting to create some chances and get the hull back into the game. Dolloway came on for Madden to have a run up front. Unfortunately Langston, after a number of weeks out was of the pace and while it seemed like only a matter of time before the hull levelled it up at the end of the day it was Langston who was caught ballwatching as a cross came in and the Brierley Hill striker was able to rise unchallenged to seal the win as the game moved toward injury time.

At the end of the day it was a great advert for the game but it all ended in tears. Hope there weren’t any words that were too long this week and my apologies for my poor performance.
