Having used all our seasons bad luck up in the opening game, Monyhull instead put on an abject display to go down 8:0. There were no redeeming points, although I would like to remind everyone that I have witnesses to the ref saying that if the rest of you had my attitude we wouldn’t have lost that badly. I will ignore all comments on the refs general performance, and before anyone starts facepaging, yes I am well aware that if you all had my ability as well then we would still have lost heavily.
Anyway, small effort to keep my place next week aside, it was a painful morning and while I would like to think we regained a bit of self respect in the second half to hold our heads up, as far as I’m concerned its still pretty painful physically if not mentally.
Somewhat more painful were the feelings of various Liverpool fans in the papers and on the telly who have had some real tragedy in their lives after the release of the Hillsborough report. It seems strange to me when it happened back in 1989 that it is still so painful even to people who didn’t have relatives involved, but I accept that if the club is your family then maybe that explains it.
If you want to understand a bit more about Hillsborough then John and I would like to invite you to come along to Monyhull Church on Saturday Week the 29th September to listen to someone who was in the crowd that day, and how that has affected his life and brought about his faith in Jesus Christ as his saviour.
The event starts at 7.45, and while I’m not around for the most of the day I think John is planning to meet up with anyone interested earlier to watch whatever match is on sky and get something to eat. Details TBA.
Good luck to whoever gets the nod for next Saturday, plenty of changes expected so make sure you are available.
